Hello Hashers,
This committee was elected to rebuild Bali HHH 2. We are now half way through the current year and it is time to once again
review progress.
The hard work and difficult decisions we have made are now starting to show results and at recent runs a spirit of fellowship
and enjoyment is now returning to our Hash. We would like to thank all our members for your commitment and support in
helping to make this happen.
- Quality of Runs
We have been working to improve the standard of runs each week and we thank the many hares for their hard work to give us
good runs. We ask our hares to chose good sites (places to avoid are the Bukit, Canggu, Sanur, Kuta or west of Tabanan).
Last year a few people were setting most of the runs, this was not good and we wanted to get as many people as possible to be
hares. This has proved successful and we now have more active hares. We also have most weekends to the end of the year
organised. If you would like to be a hare or to learn how to hare please let us know and we will see if we can fit you in.
- Circle
A circle is only as good as the participation that the members put in and a healthy circle shows a good team spirit. The circles have
continued to improve with people not talking as much, paying more attention and participating. Once again thank you for
helping us make this happen. It makes things far easier for our Hash Masters and Religious Advisor (RA). We also thank them
for their hard work.
- Victor Awards
Last month we held our Victor Awards. After many years of suggesting different ideas this year we organised a different
format. The feedback we have had so far has all been very positive and we thank everyone who helped to make the event
successful. If you have any ideas for next year please let us know.
- Beer Price and Run Fees
Several months ago we were faced with a difficult question. The run fees that we collected each week did not cover the cost of
running the hash. The biggest expense each week is the beer.
The price of beer had increased from Rp 450,000 to Rp629,000 a barrel (+ 40%) since run fees were last increased. A number of
people who don't drink beer asked that we keep the run fee at Rp25,000 and reduce the amount of beer that was available. We
tried to do this but this is against the way Bali HHH 2 has always operated so it was decided that we would increase the run fee to
Rp30,000. (Colonel Bloodknock tells us that the Jakarta Hash is Rp70,000 per run!)
This is only allowing us to break even. The committee will do everything it can to keep the fee at Rp30,000 for members and
Indonesian citizens. Unfortunately the price of beer has just been increased again from Rp629,000 a barrel to Rp705,000 a barrel.
An increase of 12.5%.
Since we increased the fee we are making sure that plenty of beer is always available. It is difficult deciding whether to open
another barrel or not. If we open a barrel too late in the day then we lose a lot of beer and a lot of money (one barrel is Rp 705,000
or 23 runners fees!). It is always a difficult decision the Beer Master has to make each week so please bear with him and support him.
- Visitors Fees
Please note that several months ago the visitors fees for Indonesians (KTP holders) was reduced to Rp30,000.
We have removed the rule that said that if people did not do 5 runs in a year they would lose their membership and have to pay
visitors fees.
The visitors fee for none Indonesians was increased to Rp100,000 to deter people who were not really hashers but
wanted a cheap day out or people that might wish to use the hash to make some money by bringing tourists. This price increase has
now achieved its aim and we now find a strong membership of genuine hashers coming each week.
- New Saturday Hash
The committee has discussed the formation of another Saturday hash group. We regret that some of our members have chosen to
leave our group and start another.
We believe that everyone should have the right to chose for themselves and we will not engage in any politics or battle for
their loyalty. We will continue to concentrate on running a good hash in the way the hash has always run with good runs, good
fellowship and lots of beer and perhaps one day our friends will return.
- And finally.......
We are always keen to hear what you, the members, want. This is your club. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

BaliHHH 2 Members Update # 1 – August 2008
Membership rule changes
Please note that membership rules for Bali HHH 2 have recently been changed as follows:
Run Fees
Run fees have been changed as follows:
Run fees have been increased to bring our budget into the black. Note that beer has increased from Rp 450,000 per barrel to Rp 630,000 per barrel (up 40%) since the last run fee increase 3 years ago. In addition Bintang have stopped providing the blanket 20% sponsorship we used to enjoy.
Runs
The Circle
We want to provide you with enjoyable circles. Running a circle is not easy with a hash as large as ours. Please help us by asking people around you not to talk in the circle.
Beer
A small number of members were drinking large volumes of beer (a whole barrel) before the run started. To dissuade people who only come for a cheap day out beer is not being served before the run starts except to the hares. Once the run is finished we want to make sure that there is plenty of beer available for everyone.
Tourists
In recent years we have had a substantial number of tourists coming to the hash. Often these people are not prepared for a hash, they do not know their way around Bali, they may not be fit enough, not aware of the dangers and often do not have people who will take responsibility for them. We are also not a licensed tourism operator. While a small number are welcome too many of them can make things difficult.
We wish to try and dissuade tourists and get back to the balance we used to have. We ask that people who bring visitors please only bring 1 or 2 and that they take full responsibility for anyone they bring. It is the hare's job to find lost runners but it is not reasonable to expect the hares to go searching for lost tourists.
Back to Basics
We wish to get back to the basics of what a hash club is all about, a good run, a good circle and good fellowship between the members. We ask you to support us in our efforts.
